a little something

So I totally stole this from this blog. It may be lame, but it is always fun!

Current Books: I am currently ready Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer, it is amazing and teaching me a lot about the characteristics of God. Along with that I am reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen and I may or may not be re-reading New Moon...

Current Playlist: To be honest I am LOVING the New Moon soundtrack, also Jay-Z's new Blue Print 3. Also this amazing song from Coconut Records (I have had a little crush on Jason Schwartzman since Rushmore) ...

Guilty Pleasure: Reading trashy novels like Twilight. Sleeping in way too late. Clove Cigarettes (dang you Obama and your banning of them!) Celebrity Gossip. Reese's Cups. Mary-Kate and Ashley movies.

Current Color: Green, purple and yellow are my favorite colors. They make me excessively happy!

Current Drink: Diet Coke. Too much of it. I used to love Pumpkin Spice Lattes but now they kind of make my tummy hurt. Gin and Tonics. Blue Moon. Chocolate Milk. Egyptian Black Licorice Yogi Tea.

Current Food: Canned Tuna Fish (weird I know, but I cannot get enough of the stuff!)

Current Favorite Show: I really love that new show "Community" Joel McHale always makes me laugh. Also "Bored To Death" this show is great plus it features Jason Schwartzman and Ted Danson, which reminds me of my childhood and watching "Cheers" with my parents

Current Wishlist: magically lose 10lbs, put my daily dose of McDonald's Diet Coke to good use and win $1,000,000 in Monopoly. that my hair would grow 6 inches overnight. switch my blackberry for an iPhone. be Marie Antoinette (minus the whole French Revolution thing). get over the stuff that gets me down. be a great artist

Current Needs: more razor blades

Current Triumphs: finally getting a j-o-b

Current Bane Of My Existence: the dog's that live in the house behind me

Current Celebrity Crush: so many...always Mike Rowe. Currently Taylor Lautner a.k.a. Jacob Black (see also this post)

Current Indulgence: painting my nails a lot.

Current Blessing: a new job. awesome friends that really love me and manage to keep me sane. Jesus

Current Slang: I say "to be perfectly honest" a lot. I don't really think that is slang. Also I say BTW which is pretty lame, but true

Current Outfit: men's purple j. crew boxers with little hunting dogs on them, pink and yellow wool argyle socks, a grey t-shirt that says "Are you a Warrior?" from a race I ran in in June (obviously these are my pajamas)

Current Excitement: my dad is coming to visit me in a few weeks!!

Current Mood: a little but frustrated, confused, angry, excited, anxious, bitter, joyful, peaceful.... basically a lot of conflicting feelings fighting one another at the current moment

Current Link: Will someone please buy me these beautiful boots ?!

A Recommendation

I just finished watching the movie The Brothers Bloom. Have you seen it? I would definitely recommend it. It is the story of two con men. It has Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Weisz all playing really quirky and fun characters. It is also really beautiful.

You should probably watch it.

On top of that it features Robbie Coltrane a.k.a. Reubeus Hagrid and I think he is an incredible actor.

this beat is sick

The following is a list of the Top 10 Songs I have listened to this week on iTunes

1. White Winter Hymnal -Fleet Foxes
2. Paparazzi -Lady GaGa
3. Wedding Dress -Derek Webb
4. Coin Laundry -Lisa Mitchell
5. Microphone -Coconut Records
6. Night on the Sun -Modest Mouse
7. Uprising -Muse
8. Flightless Bird, American Mouth -Iron & Wine
9. Heartless -William Fitzsimmons
10. Can't Believe A Single Word -VHS or Beta

What is the deal with Lady GaGa? I want to dislike her but her songs get stuck in my head and all day long I sing lines like "I'm your biggest fan I'll follow you until you love me..." So ridiculous, but catchy. It is so annoying.

In other news... remember that time I was going to attempt Russian Literature yet again? I must sadly report that I failed miserably. Perhaps my goals are just too lofty?

Truth

Patterning your life around other's opinions is nothing more than slavery.

-Lawana Blackwell

I read this quote recently and it has really stuck with me. I have spent so much of my life as a slave to the opinions of those around me. Not only is it slavery, but it is destructive. I have done so many things that I regret and wish I could take back because I was so concerned about how others perceived me. I have wanted men to want me so I acted a certain way, dressed a certain way, did what I thought they wanted me to do. I was not truly myself and in the end I ended up hurting myself more than anyone.
Why do we do these things? Why does what everyone thinks matter so much to us? As a follower of Christ I know that we were freed from being a slave to men when Jesus paid for us with his death on the cross. So why do I still do it?

Confession

Currently I am a full time student with no job so I have a lot of down time, my newest thing I have discovered to fill my downtime is watching ALIAS. I cannot figure out why I didn't watch it when it was still on TV, I mean it could be something to do with me having a life at the time, but I am going to pretend that is not the truth. I am totally obsessed with it now and I'm finding that everywhere I go I think someone is a spy. Although, the guy I saw sitting in his shiny BMW by the park, wearing a suit and dark sunglasses, reading the newspaper, I mean you cannot tell me that is not suspect.

After All This Won't You Give Me a Smile?

There are two things I love: Bruce Springsteen and The Clash (well obviously I love a lot more than two things but these are two of many). Imagine my surprise and great joy when I found these video of Bruce Springsteen covering The Clash's "London Calling." I hope you can enjoy it as much as I do.

Resignation

I love you
because the Earth turns round the sun
because the North wind blows north
sometimes
because the Pope is Catholic
and most Rabbis Jewish
because winters flow into spring
and the air clears after a storm
because only my love for you
despite the charms of gravity
keeps me from falling off the Earth
into another dimension
I love you
because it is the natural order of things
I love you
like the habit I picked up in college
of sleeping through lectures
or saying I'm sorry
when I get stopped for speeding
because I drink a glass of water
in the morning
and chain-smoke cigarettes
all through the day
because I take my coffee Black
and my milk with chocolate
because you keep my feet warm
through my life a mess
I love you
because I don't want it
any other way
I am helpless
in m love for you
It makes me so happy
to hear you call my name
I am amazed you can resist
locking me in an echo chamber
where your voice reverberates
through the four walls
sending me into spasmatic ecstasy
I love you
because it's been so good
for so long
that if I didn't love you
I'd have to be born again
and that is not a theological statement
I am pitiful in my love for you
The Dells tell me Love
is so simple
the thought though of you
sends indescribably delicious multitudinous
thrills throughout and through-in my body
I love you
because no two snowflakes are alike
and it is possible if you stand tippy-toe
to walk between the raindrops
I love you
because I am afraid of the dark
and can't sleep in the light
because I rub my eyes
when I wake up in the morning
and find you there
because you with all your magic powers were
determined that
I should love you
because there was nothing for you but that
I would love you
I love you
because you made me
want to love you
more than I love my privacy
my freedom my commitments
and responsibilities
I love you `cause I changed my life
to love you
because you saw me one friday
afternoon and decided that I would
love you
I love you I love you I love you
-Nikki Giovanni
